Developing an open architecture inkjet platform for industrial and academic research
Abstract :
In his talk, Craig Sturgess will discuss the challenges faced by a new company entering the inkjet printing space. He will delve into the complexities of software development, submodule design, and the overall process of making the inkjet technology more accessible to new users. The talk will be delivered from an Additive Manufacturing (AM) perspective, with a particular emphasis on the collaborative work Added Scientific Ltd (ASL) has been undertaking with Autodesk. Craig will highlight the development of an open machine control framework, to which ASL is actively contributing as an open-source project.
Bio :
Craig Sturgess is the Technical Principal at Added Scientific Ltd, a university spinout from Nottingham that offers consultancy and contract research services to companies interested in Additive Manufacturing.
He completed his PhD in 2016 on "Fully reactive 3D inkjet printing of polydimethylsiloxane and polyurethane," and has since applied his diverse skills in chemistry, software, engineering, and hardware to support various research projects.
His passion lies in making Additive Manufacturing more widespread through the use of inkjet technologies. He believes that the primary barrier to this is the lack of end-use materials for printing and is dedicated to creating tools, equipment, and systems that enable materials research in inkjet.
